The Great Nebula in the constellation Orion, the Hunter is probably the
most famous of all astronomical nebulae. The middle "star" in the sword of
Orion, the Orion Nebula is an immense region which contains many stellar
nurseries where stars are born. These nurseries contain hydrogen gas and
hot young stars. The Orion Nebula is about 1,500 light-years distant,
located in the same spiral arm of the Milky Way (our galaxy) as the Sun.
