Kate's Home Page
I guess I'm just a normal fifteen year old. I live in a way too small town house with a way too small(and way too messy) bedroom in Springfield, like on the Simpsons(the cartoon show, not the trial). About this trial of the century, and wasn't that the scopes trial(not that I know much at all about trials), my opinion has long before died away. I don't like all the media coverage and aren't people supposed to be innocent until proven guilty? And he hasn't been proven anything yet. I live in Springfield, Virginia with my mom(who's kind of obsessed with the trial), my dad(who works for the government at the census bureau), and my little nine year old sister(who's adopted from India).
Animals!
I love ALL animals... except scorpians. I have a large stupid golden retriever, as if a golden retriever could be anything but stupid, named Kelly. I also have a HUGE fifteen pound orange and brown cat named Liklik, meaning "little one", in the language they speak in Papua New Guinea where I was born(ten points if you know where it is!). I used to take horseback riding lessons(my mother's idea) but, as much as I love horses, I can't stand jumping.
Reading!I love reading and writing; I especially love fantasy and science fiction. I think I'm almost through my Micheal
Crichton stage(I just have to finish Disclosure and
Travels).

My Five Favorite Books:
- The Wind Blows Backward, Mary Downing Hahn
- A Case of Need, Micheal Crichton
- A Catcher in the Rye, T.D.Salinger
- Teklab, William Shatner
- Sphere, Micheal Crichton
When it comes to poetry my favorite master is Frost and though I love
Song of Myself(Whitman) and The Road Not Taken my absolute favorite poem
is:
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eve
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the wood and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Summer 1995 Activities!
I
LOVE the summer time!!! I went to a technology camp at
school called Camp
T-Equity, and worked on a science project on vermicomposting for
school. Vermicomposting is the process of worms digesting and changing dirt, food, and yard waste into organically rich soil which is very good for plants. If you're interested in this at all, whether it's to help your garden or the environment in general, please feel free to contact me. I had a lot of trouble tracking down literature, articles, and worm sources and I'd love to save some people all that trouble! The most important resource you can use is:

School!
Speaking of school, I'm taking the normal
courses for a sophmore(Chemistry, Algebra II, English 10, P.E., French II), all of them gifted and talented classes, as well as creative writing and band. I play the clarinet in the second highest band and I love all music except for folk(you know, that harmonica, washboard, fiddle stuff). I can't stand physical education classes... especially when we have to run the mile in twenty degree weather!
Entertainment!
Television
and movies
are my life!!! My favorite shows include: Friends, ER, Chicago Hope,
Party of Five, My So-Called Life(if it were still on; we don't have cable
at my house), Earth 2(if it were still on), everything related to Star
Trek(I am a -GASP-trekkie), Forever Knight, the Indy Jones Cronicles(if they
were still on) Hercules, and Vanishing Son(does anyone out there know
for sure it it was replaced by stupid undeserving Xena?). I don't think I
have a favorite movie or movies--I've seen so many!!! I guess I'm one of those
people who tapes every little thing that comes onto television; I've got
about one hundred and ninety-something videos filling up book shelves in
my basement, of course one shelf is reserved for my Starburst candy
wrapper chain that I started last the summer. My first chain was a yard
long when my dog got a hold of it and tore it to pieces. So, I had to
start a new one. It's a couple yards long right now; I haven't measuered
it recently.
Highlander!
The last thing I must say is
that I am totally obsessed with the movies and television show Highlander. It is my life.
Favorite Quote!
"Look for the light instead of
the shadows," Duncan MacLeod on "Highlander."
