Cumulonimbus (Cb)

Cumulonimbus clouds (thunderstorms) are massive, dark gray to black clouds which produce brief, heavy precipitation. The root word "cumulus" means "accumulated"; the suffix "nimbus" means precipitation producing.
Cumulonimbus clouds produce lightning (and thunder) as well as a variety of other hazardous weather conditions including strong winds, flash floods, hail, and tornadoes.
