Planet Earth--our home in space! The "3rd Rock from the Sun" is
just the right distance from the Sun to support life. "Heaven is under
our feet as well as over our heads." - Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
Mars. Fourth planet from the Sun. Although much colder than
Earth, Mars is the most Earth-like planet in our Solar System. Mars'
reddish color is caused by the oxidation of its iron-rich rock and soil.
Jupiter. Fifth planet from the Sun in the Solar System. Jupiter is
the largest planet in the Solar System. Its four largest moons (the
"Galilean Moons") can be seen through a good pair of binoculars.
Saturn. Sixth planet from the Sun in the Solar System. Second
largest planet in the Solar System.
