Andromeda Galaxy

Our nearest large neighbor galaxy (a group of 200- to 300 billion stars), the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is some 2 million light-years away--the most distant object easily visible to the unaided eye. Without a telescope, this immense spiral galaxy appears as a faint, nebulous cloud in the constellation Andromeda.
