From oglesby@sover.net Fri Sep 2 23:49:23 2005 Date: Wed, 31 Aug 2005 22:05:13 -0400 From: Mac Oglesby To: Walter Sanford Subject: DeltaCAD Tutorial part 2 Walter, > >How is mine different? I followed your directions VERY carefully! The key word here is "exactly." I attach four screen snaps showing the slight differences between my COED-1 and yours. I don't know what happened. It might be that you inadvertently moved the left vertical line (the basic hour line). Maybe my instructions are flawed. It doesn't matter, IMO. > > P.S. Ready for Part 2? > >Well, yes, that is after I figure out why my drawing turned out >differently than yours. Is Part 2 ready for me? ;) Part 2 is appended. Good luck. Remember, it's GOOD to try things -- you can always undo your last move, and it's always possible to just start over. Finally, keep in mind that my instructions just might be wrong. (But not on purpose.) ;-) Best wishes, Mac ***** Part 2 Open COED-1.DC If the drawing isn't centered, click on View button, then Dot button, then type 0,0 (e) or, click on whatever part of drawing you want to center. Click the Select tab Click on the hour line for noon Click on Set base point button (next to "S" button) I'm sure you've noticed that each button announces its function as the pointer touches it. And don't forget that F1 is your friend. Type 0,0 (e = enter) Click on Rotate button (counterclockwise arrow) Click on "Copy" Type rotation angle 15 and press Return 23 times (optional) erase the next to smallest circle ***** (pause) Create a new layer named "Numerals" and make sure it's Current Click on Text button. Choose text point size, 36 seems about right Choose text insertion point by clicking on "Xyz" button, then click on middle dot in the second row. Click on any blank space outside dial, type 11 (e) Click at another place, type 10 (e) Repeat until you have all numbers needed (from 5 through 19?) scattered about in the clear space outside the dial. ***** Click on Line button, type 0,5.25 (e). Type -.5,0 (e) to draw a short line. Select that short line Click on Mirror button (5th button from left) Click on Copy Click on vertical line to which short line is attached. ***** Click on Select button. Select number 5 Click on move button (3rd from left) Click Toggle snap mode (red cross at lower right) twice -- it will change from a cross to a rectangle with diagonals). Position the 5 on the short line, centered on the longer vertical line. This will be the initial position for each number. Click on Set base point button, type 0,0 (e). The 5 remains red, showing it's still selected. Click on rotate. Type 110 (e). If that position doesn't look OK, type 1 (e) or -1 (e) or .5 (e) or whatever it takes. ***** Select the number 6 and move it to the initial position. Set base point 0,0 (e). Click rotate and type 95 (e) [110 - 15 = 95] Continue through "11" then do 19 through 13, rotating -100, -85, -70, etc. Position and rotate "12" Erase short horizontal lines and long vertical. (Optional) erase center dot (it wouldn't print anyway). If you think the numbers need to be turned slightly to better align with the hour lines, select a number a rotate it a little. You probably don't need to set a base point for each number. I attach COED-2.DC, showing how the dial appears on my screen.
