B) - "Reach for the Stars" Results PTs: On Saturday, 01 May 2004, Sandburg MS hosted the Virginia State Science Olympiad (Division B); I hosted/judged the "Reach for the Stars" event. I was ably assisted by one of my colleagues from the SMS Science Dept. and two of my better students. The event ran smoothly; IMO the competition was more than fair. FYI, here are the results of the astronomy event.... Note: Some schools entered two teams for the event; the two teams were designated as either "red" or "white." Place | Raw Score | % (top 3 teams only) | School/Team 1. 53/70 | 76% | Liberty (red) 2. 52/70 | 74% | Sandburg 3. 49/70 | 70% | Frost (red) 4. 48.5/70 | Kilmer (red) 5. 48/70 | Carson (red) 6. 47/70 | Longfellow (red) 7. 46/70 | Glasgow 8. 45/70 | Longfellow (white) 9. 43/70 | Frost (white) 10. 41/70 | Whitman 11. 40/70 | Carson (white) 12. 38/70 | Rocky Run (red) 13. 32/70 | Hughes 14. 31/70 | Rocky Run (white) 15. 29/70 | Holmes 16. 28.5/70 | Luray 17. 28/70 | Key Several schools scratched their entire team at the last minute. One school (I can't remember its name) fielded a team but did not enter the "Reach for the Stars" event, therefore they received the maximum score of 18. ================================================================= Walter Sanford, Director Carl Sandburg Middle School Center for Sky Awareness 8428 Fort Hunt Road Sandburg Planetarium Alexandria, VA 22308 Fairfax County Public Schools Work: 703-799-6169 -6197 (fax) E-mail: wsanford@wsanford.com Home: 703-765-9392 AMS Project ATMOSPHERE Atmospheric Education Resource Agent & Water in the Earth System (WES) Resource Teacher SCSA, Geosystems, & Camp T-Equity - URL: http://www.wsanford.com/ =================================================================
