From dvenez@erols.com Mon Dec 18 22:12:34 2006 Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2006 22:12:26 -0500 From: David Venezky To: 'Walter Sanford' Subject: Order for December, 2006 Walt: Items 1 through 4 of the attached order are those items I thought were ordered from Flinn last June. Item 5, Sodium, is suggested for a cool demonstration of the reactivity of the metal with water. The reactivity that takes place with water that is covered with a blanket of mineral oil is extremely impressive. Item 6 is more hydrogen peroxide if you believe it needs to be reordered now. I included 2 items that I believe a good PTA would donate funding to purchase if it is interested in providing its Middle School with state of the art equipment for teaching 8th Grade physical science. If you think it is appropriate, I will speak with two neighbors who have children in the 8th grade about the still and pump. Finally, while looking through the catalog, (reminds me of my youth when I looked through Sear's and Ward's catalogs for my wish lists!) I found two items you should review: Molarity on p-104 and boil water by cooling on p-318. I plan to return the 2006 catalog tomorrow morning on my way to run some last minute errands. Will see you then. Dave PS: I am positive the problem with the lab on Friday was due to the distilled, "ozonated" water. It must have contained a large amount of dissolved carbon dioxide that formed calcium carbonate when it was added to the lime water. No matter how much water I added, the calcium hydroxide solution never became clear. I have two new bottles of distilled water that I will use to test my theory after the break.
