PROFILE
General: I never was good at introducing myself at any place throughout my life, so forgive me if I sound awkward. Well, I'm a sixteen-year-old sophomore attending West Springfield High School in Springfield, Virginia. I'm your average teenager with m any of the same worries and concerns as other high schoolers of my age. My immediate family consists of a mom, dad, and two sisters. If you keep reading, you'll learn more about me.
Animal lover: I love all animals. My personal favorites are birds and horses. For information on other animals, you can go to The Electronic Zoo. I really got interested in birds when I had an opportunity to bird-sit for a friend. The bird's name was Peachy(a peach-faced love bird from parrot family). As his name indicates, his colors were a combination of refreshing peach colors. I grew to love the bird over the three months I had him. He loved to cuddle and splash in water(cute!). If any of you like or are interested in birds, you should read "Your Pet Bird-A Buyer's Guide," by Michele Lowell. This is the best bird book for beginners I've ever read--and I've read quite a few books. It describes in detail(in a very conversational way) most common kinds of birds sold as pets and what the advantages, disadvantages, and demands are for each species. Plus, the book has very colorful pictures of each bird. I don't know much about horses, but I know I really love riding them. My friend has a farm close by and I have been invited to ride for the weekends a few time.
Religious: My entire family members are devoted Catholics and because of that, religion is a major part of my life. I just attended a church-organized retreat for teenagers. The theme of the retreat was, "You Will Recieve Power." From this retreat, I learned much knowledge about my faith and strengthened my faith as the result. I'd like to thank Sister M.P. for her tremendous effort during the entire course of the retreat. She has made much difference in my life, and in everyone else's. She taught me to talk personally to God and made me realize that he is personal talking to me in the Bible, our holy family album.
Gum wrapper collector: I am an enthusiastic gum wrapper collector. If anybody got past the religious part of my autobiography, you're probably wondering, "what does any sane person do with bunch of gum wrappers?" Well, others of you might be asking yourselves, "is this person just bored to death and have nothing else to do than to collect gum wrappers, or is this person just plain weird?" Well, I have one answer to that: you are actually reading this weird person's autobiography, so what does that make you?(ha,ha,ha) No, no! Don't go! I can explain this weird collection. See, I fold the wrappers a certain way and make a big chain out of them. I haven't measured the chain recently, so I have no idea how long it is now, but I'll tell you, it's pretty darn long! But, I have to admit, the long chain is pretty useless-except when birds chew on an end of it.
Book lover:
My interest in books started when I was very little.
I've
always loved being read to. Now, I like all kinds of books: mystery, classic, romance, horror, thriller, science fiction, biography, documentary, and play. Mystery and classic are my
very most favorites. I like most of Michael Crichton's books and Ann Rice's Vampire Chronicles. In classics, I absolutely adore Pride and
Prejudice, and Jane Eyre.
Movie/TV crazed: I'll put it this way; I think Siskel and Ebert have the world's only "fun" full time job. They get to watch movie s (new ones) and criticize them--every day! (oh, heaven) I like all kinds of movies and can watch movies literally all day without getting bored. My favorite classics would have to be Gone With the Wind and Anne of Green Gables.(I consider this a classic) Here are some of my favorite movies: My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, Indiana Jones Chronicles, Schindler's List, Stargate, Star Wars(all three of them), While You were Sleeping, Die Hard II, Monty Python's Now For Something Completely Different, and Apollo 13. As for TV shows, I like X-Files, Entertainmnet Tonight, ER, Christy, Vanishing Son, and Highlander If you've never heard of Highlander the series(there are also three movies about the Highlander), you should consult your TV guide and try it. The show is exposively popular in Europe.
Other hobbies:
I
have wide variety of interests and hobbies. First, I
am a member of the International Thespian Society. I love theatre. Instead of acting, though, I like backstage work better. I've worked with costumes, sets, props, and more. I've als
o acted a few times, but I really am more fond of the tech jobs backstage. Talking about acting, I was a member of an OM team this year. OM stands for Odyssey of the Mind. It's an international creative problem solving organization. The committee comes up
with problems that each OM groups will try to solve(in a creative way). This year, my group chose the problem where we had to create and present a Vaudeville Show. We all had fun coming up with a hilarious show. Another of my interest areas is in arts.
I've always loved sketching, painting, and drawing. (I designed a cover
for a school magazine called the "Kaleidoscope" when I was in eighth grade!) Music is another of my big interest areas. I've played the
piano since I was in first grade. I love it! It relieves my stress whenever I'm depressed, and it's just a terrific feeling when I perfect a
difficult piece for a competition. Last but not least, I love putting together jigsaw puzzles. My sisters and I are always working on at least one jigsaw puzzle at all time.
Camp T-Equity: I've been attending something called the Camp T-Equity this summer. How I got started? Well, my friend's mom read about this camp and told us we should sign up for it. So, we kind of reluctantly did. As it turns out, the decision to sign up was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I'm very serious. Camp T-Equity is a technology-related camp only for girls. I just learned that only 16% of U.S's scientists are women! I was not very pleased with this statistic, so I was even mo re glad that I signed up for this. The camp encourages girls to be enthusiastic and confident with working with computers and other technologies. Click on Camp T-Equity Home Page for more informatio n about the camp(if you didn't go through the camp home page first before you entered mine).
Summer: This summer, my friend and I are starting a science fair project. Our experiment is about worm composting, or vermicomposting. We are introducing some unusual materials to see if the worms will compost it. It's going to be a fun experiment(don' t worry, we are not giving them anything that will be toxic to them, such as milk). Aside from the science experiment, I am watching lots of movies this summer!
