Geosystems is an upper-level, technology-based earth- and environmental
science course. This exciting new course will feature:
- Authentic, project-based learning (student-selected topics related to
the earth and environmental sciences)
- High-speed computer networking via the Internet (providing access to
the rich variety of human and information resources available via the
Internet)
- Videoconferencing (via the Internet) to collaborate with professional
earth scientists
- Use of visualization tools to understand complex scientific data sets
- Use of image processing applications to analyze/interpret
near-real-time remotely-sensed imagery, e.g., weather satellite and
weather radar imagery
- Use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning
System (GPS)
- Use of interactive multimedia authorware to design/create
student-generated multimedia presentations, including World Wide Web
(WWW) pages
- Use of the Texas Instruments TI-83 graphing calculator and
calculator-based laboratory (CBL)
- Portfolio assessment

Mr. Walter Sanford is uniquely qualified to
offer a high quality program of instruction in the geosciences. Mr.
Sanford has nearly thirty years of teaching experience, including over two
decades of experience working to integrate instructional technology into
the science curriculum.
